Mauricio Riveros Named Hispanic Business Person of the Year

The Pike Company Executive Receives 25th Annual RHBA Award 

Riveros, MauricioThe Rochester Hispanic Business Association, a Rochester Business Alliance affiliate, named Mauricio Riveros its 2014 Hispanic Business Person of the Year.  Riveros serves as Executive Vice President of The Pike Company, overseeing project operations and risk management.

Riveros is also responsible for Pike’s “The University” program that provides internal training and professional development for all Pike and LECESSE employees.  He developed the company’s “Steps to Success Program” that provides hands-on training to women and minority-owned companies in alliance with public and private enterprise.

Rochester Hispanic Business Association President Hiram Hernandez, Sr. said, “Mauricio has the leadership of an innovator, the one who inspires leaders to act, and the one who gets things done.”

Prior to coming to the United States and The Pike Company, Riveros served as National Director of Planning and Territorial Organization for the Bolivian government.  Riveros serves on a number of local boards including the Upstate New York Minority Supply Development Council, Allendale Columbia School, St. Ann’s Community, and the YMCA.  He lives in Perinton with his wife, Bess, and three children.

Riveros said, “It is with great honor that I receive this award for making a significant contribution to the Hispanic and business community of Rochester. Being from Bolivia, I have always held the Hispanic community near and dear to my heart and consider it a privilege to contribute in any way possible. Through my interactions with various organizations, groups, and companies whose goal it is to improve the lives of our general community and Hispanic population and make connections amongst the Hispanic community, I have found the Rochester Hispanic Business Association to be a great promoter of these goals. I could not be more grateful and blessed that they have chosen me as this year’s Hispanic Business Person of the Year.”

RHBA Awards Scholarships to Hispanic Students

RHBA Scholarship Recipients

Continuing a long tradition, RHBA is awarding two scholarships to area Hispanic students college-bound. The recipients of the 2014 awards are Jeremiah Piersante, a senior at Brighton High School who will attend Hobart College, and Carlos Esteban Rivera, who is graduating from Hilton High School and will be a student at SUNY Fredonia this fall.

Each student will receive a $1,100 scholarship.

RHBA needs your help in identifying individuals who have enhanced the Hispanic community with a significant, positive contribution or who have contributed to the economic development and business interests of the Greater Rochester Hispanic  community. The contribution may be in the arts, athletics, business, education, government, music, philanthropy, science or social services.

The deadline to submit nominations is June 30, 2014.  The award will be presented at the annual luncheon on September 25, 2014.

RHBA Chair named to RBA Board

Congratulations to RHBA Chair of the Board, Hiram Hernandez, Sr.!


Hiram Hernandez, Sr., CEO of First Capital Payments, and newly elected chair of the Rochester Hispanic Business Association, has been named to the Rochester Business Alliance Board of Directors.


The announcement was made at the Top 100 Hundred luncheon held on November 6th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Ines Ferrer-AntonettiThe Rochester Hispanic Business Association, a Rochester Business Alliance affiliate, named Ines Antonetti-Ferrer its 2013 Hispanic Business Person of the Year. Antonetti-Ferrer owns Ines’ Casa de Hair beauty salon on Rochester’s North Goodman Street, where she also serves as lead stylist.

The 2013 Hispanic Business Person of the Year honor is the latest of several awards that Antonetti-Ferrer has received in her 33 years in business. Antonetti-Ferrer split her days in the Rochester City School District between Jefferson High School and Edison Tech to complete her academic studies along with an occupational education. She received a high school diploma and a New York State license in Cosmetology.

Rochester Hispanic Business Association Chair Grace Tillinghast said, “I am delighted that RHBA selected Ines as the 2013 awardee. Ines is a pioneer Hispanic business owner and one who has established and maintained her business in the city of Rochester. She is only the fourth female to be named Hispanic Business Person of the Year in the 24 year existence of the RHBA.” [Read more…]

RHBA Chair Grace Tillinghast Joins the Women’s Council Board of Directors

Grace Tillinghast, Rochester Hispanic Business Association Chair and co-owner of The Battery, has joined the Greater Rochester Women’s Council Board of Directors, elected for a 3-year term.

Ms. Tillinghast had previously worked with the Council for many years while she worked at the Kodak Company.

The Greater Rochester Women’s Council, an affiliate of the Rochester Business Alliance, defines itself as “a great way for women in business, education and many other sectors of our regional economy to get connected to the greater community and to network for professional growth and success“. The Women’s Council sponsors the prestigious Athena and Young Women of Distinction awards.

Hiram Hernández Sr. Joins MCC Foundation

Hiram HernandezMonroe Community College announced that Hiram Hernández, Sr., president and CEO of First Capital Payments, has joined the Monroe Community College Foundation Board of Directors.

The MCC Foundation is a 501 c 3 nonprofit corporation that seeks and secures private funds to supplement MCC’s traditional revenue sources.

Mr. Hernández, originally from Puerto Rico, is member of the Board of Directors of the Rochester Hispanic Business Association (RHBA) and actively involved  in the community.

Sergio Esteban 2012 Rochester Hispanic Business Person of the Year

The Rochester Hispanic Business Association it has chosen Sergio Esteban, CEO of LaBella Associates, P.C., as its 2012 Hispanic Business Person of the Year.

“Sergio epitomizes everything that one looks for in an honoree,” said Grace Tillinghast, chair of Rochester Hispanic Business Association, an affiliate of the Rochester Business Alliance. “He is a respected business leader who made Rochester his home. He is very involved in the community, and over the years has held a number of prominent leadership positions. We are thrilled to be able to honor him.”

Esteban, a native of Madrid, Spain, has lived in Rochester since 1978, and is a past president of the Rochester Hispanic Business Association. He is the incoming chairman of the board of GEVA Theatre, and currently serves as chairman of the Rochester Riverside Convention Center and as a trustee the Monroe Community College Foundation, Nazareth College and the Rochester Economic Development Corp. Sergio Esteban Named Chair of the Board at GEVA

GEVA recently named Sergio Esteban, President and CEO of LaBella Associates P.C., Chair of its Board of Directors.

GEVA Theatre Center is Rochester’s leading professional theatre since it was founded 39 years ago. It is the regional theatre that attracts the largest number of patrons, estimated al 180,000 annually. It creates and produces professional theatre, programs and services of a national standard, and it is a big part of the cultural life in the region. Sergio served previously as vice chair of the board.

Sergio Esteban, Rochester Business Association Vice Chair, is also chair of the board of the Convention Center and is active in several other local boards.

RHBA Scholarships Awarded to Local Hispanic Students

For over a decade, the Rochester Hispanic Business Association has been awarding scholarships to local Hispanic students.

This year, the RHBA scholarships will be awarded to two college bound Hispanic students: Javier Enrique Torres (Odyssey Academy) and Olivia Martinez (Rush Henrietta).
