Dr. Emeterio M. Otero, Executive Dean at Monroe Community College’s Damon City Campus, received the 2012 Jennifer Koon Courage Award from the St. John Fisher College Peace and Social Justice studies program. The ceremony took place during the annual “The Road Less Traveled” event at St. John Fisher College.
Dr. Otero has an extensive résumé full of volunteer work, and he is actively involved as a board member of numerous non-profit organizations in Rochester.
The Jennifer Koon Courage Award is given to ‘an individual who is committed to peacemaking and who strives to make the world a better and more peaceful place.’
The Jennifer Koon Peacemaking Foundation was established by Mr. and Mrs. David Koon in honor of her daughter, who was abducted from a suburban mall and murdered during her sophomore year at St. John Fisher College in 1993.
