Luisa Baars, Founder and President of MAS Translation Services
2024 Rochester Hispanic Business Person of the Year
Luisa began her career as a physical and occupational therapist, working with Hispanic communities in various settings, including clinics, nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. Her focus was on helping individuals regain function, return to work, and alleviate pain. She also developed treatment tracks for Hispanic clients in a drug and alcohol addiction center and worked with agencies in Rochester, offering services in Spanish for non-English speakers.
In 1988, Luisa founded MAS Translation Services to address the need for proper translation and interpretation services for the Hispanic population. She has translated a wide range of materials and provided interpretation services in legal, medical, and educational settings. Her passion for facilitating communication between providers and consumers has been a driving force throughout her career.
Luisa has served on numerous boards and organizations, advocating for the Hispanic community in Rochester. She founded the Rochester Latino Rotary Club, which focuses on “Service Above Self,” and has received numerous awards for her contributions, including the Paul Harris Award and the Occupational Therapist of the Year. Luisa’s dedication to her community and belief in the goodness of people have made her a role model in the Hispanic community.
