Mildred Vazquez has lived and worked in the Rochester Latino community most of her life. Her family moved from Puerto Rico to Rochester when she was very young and with the help and support of relatives already in the area, friends and agencies like Ibero-American Action League and the Puerto Rican Youth Development Program (PRYD), they started a new chapter of their lives here.
“I remember my parents buying their first new stereo cabinet (not system) and Spanish records from La Mina on Clinton Avenue.”
Mildred earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from SUNY Brockport. She worked for a number of non-profit agencies and later on, Mildred became Executive Director of PRYD.
Mildred is very active in the local community and has served on the board and committees of several non-profit organizations, including Co-Chair of the Youth Services Quality Council, Co-Chair of the Monroe County’s ACESS Community Collaborative committee, and Advisory Board Member of the Monroe County Public Defender’s Advisory Board.
She owned and sold her own business in the past and is now a Real Estate Agent with a well recognized broker and leader in the area, the RE/MAX Realty Group.
Her latest initiative is the “Latinos Ayudando a Latinos” (Latinos helping Latinos) concept. Its mission is to connect and grow the prosperity of the Latino community by buying, referring, using the services, celebrating, and participating in Latino businesses, events and organizations.
“The idea is to increase wealth within the Greater Rochester Latino Community by tapping into the Latino culture sense of family and community.”
