Vilma Burgos-Torres is the second woman elected as chairperson of the Rochester Hispanic Business Association in its 26-year history.
Burgos-Torres, a native of Puerto Rico native, was on the founding board of the Puerto Rican Youth and Resource Center and Latinas Unidas. She has served on many advisory boards including the first Bilingual Education Advisory Board for the Rochester City School District.
“With the help of the amazing board members and the membership, I hope to increase member benefits, enhance our website features, and review and update our governance policies,” she said in a statement.
The Burgos Income Tax Business services manager succeeds Hiram Hernandez, who remains on the board as an at large member. Others elected to board include Kelly Mullaney, vice chair; Grace Tillinghast, chair adviser; Jane Sutter, secretary; Lisa DeVinney, treasurer, and at-large members Sergio Esteban, Luis Martinez and Luis Ormaechea.
The business association is an affiliate of the Rochester Business Alliance.
