Members of the Rochester Hispanic Business Association are invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SCORE at an event that will help them “accelerate their business.”
Business owners will have the opportunity to meet with top business and political leaders, attend mini workshops, make valuable business contacts, access free business consulting, and leave with valuable resource kits and helpful contacts not found elsewhere.
The anniversary will be celebrated from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Monroe Golf Club, 155 Golf Ave., Pittsford. The event is free and will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Advance registration is required by May 6. Applicants can register by going to https://tinyurl.com/score50thanniversary.
SCORE is a volunteer organization with more than 80 experienced business professionals serving Monroe and surrounding counties. RHBA member Jane Sutter is a volunteer with SCORE. These professionals offer one-on-one business advice and mentoring for new and existing businesses, in addition to SCORE offering a robust schedule of workshops at low cost. SCORE is also part of a national network of 11,500-plus volunteers in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
While SCORE has long been associated with business start-ups, the Rochester chapter is expanding its scope to help existing businesses to grow their sales, operate more efficiently, expand their product lines, and grow market penetration.
“As the economy fluctuates, and new competitors enter, the pressure for business survival escalates,” said Art Roberts, chapter president. “Existing business owners often have business skill sets that may be dated. SCORE provides state-of-the-art technical financial assistance from the breadth of talent we have in our chapter. And it’s free. Part of economic growth is the generation of new businesses and jobs. However, to keep a vibrant economy, our mission also includes helping existing businesses stay in business.”
At the anniversary celebration, SCORE volunteers will conduct mini-workshops on a variety of topics, including marketing and social marketing, sales, financing, website development, banking, veterans outreach, payroll, legal issues, and SBA services. Ray Hutch, recently retired founder and CEO of Synergy Global Solutions, will speak about “Survival and Success in Running a Small Business.” Hutch started his company in 1971, and it has grown to more than 135 employees and more than $63 million in revenue.
