The U. S. Treasury Department and the IRS have announced two changes affecting tax returns due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
First, the filing deadline is extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. Secondly, the same deadline is extended for those who owe IRS money they have until July 15, 2020 to pay and will not incur penalties or interest. You do not have to file any extension paperwork. The new changes are now automatic.
Governor Cuomo has announced the extension of NY State income tax filing date to coincide with the new federal filing date of July 15, 2020.
I will continue to keep you informed.
