Topic: Challenges the Rochester School District faces with the number of families arriving in Rochester after the storms in Puerto Rico.
BRENDA L. PACHECO began her career with the Rochester City School District more than 30 years ago as Bilingual Social Studies Teacher. Her various roles supporting city students range from lead teacher to mentor to administrator and principal. Ms. Pacheco spent nearly 25 years of her career at School of the Arts where she served as the Principal for past 15 years. Throughout her career her advocacy for student achievement and success led her to various positions within the RCSD including the Interim Chief of Secondary Schools, the Director of Student Affairs and Placement, and currently she is on assignment serving as the Director of Bilingual Recruitment. She was selected by the Superintendent to fill this role because of her extensive experience serving Hispanic and Latino families. The RCSD is focused on addressing the needs of the hundreds of families and educators who have relocated to Rochester from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands because of Hurricane Maria’s devastation.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Liberal Arts degree, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Placement in Education Administration from the State University of New York at Brockport. Her many professional affiliations include extensive work with on the Executive Council of ASAR – the Association of Supervisor’s and Administrators of Rochester mentoring new administrators to RCSD, and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Educational Administration at SUNY Brockport. A native Rochesterian, Ms. Pacheco is married and has three adult sons.
