The RPD is the principal law enforcement agency of the city of Rochester, and currently has approximately 869 officers and support staff, a budget of approximately $75 million, and covers an area of 37 square miles. Police Chief Michael Ciminelli was officially sworn in April 2014 at the Public Safety Building in Rochester.
Ciminelli grew up in the 19th Ward and graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School. His RPD career includes serving as commanding officer of the Special Operations Division, commander of Patrol Division West, a sergeant, a homicide investigator and a patrol officer.
He also holds a law degree from the University of Buffalo Law School and is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and Monroe Community College.
