Join us at Monte Alban’s for our November Business Lunch Series with Brad Willows!
Topic: Kiva Rochester: “Dreams are universal. Opportunity is not.”
On Aug. 22, Mayor Lovely Warren announced the launch of an exciting new resource for small businesses and entrepreneurs called Kiva Rochester. The City of Rochester has partnered with Kiva, an international microfinance nonprofit based in San Francisco. Since 2005, Kiva has worked to provide loans of $10,000 or less with 0% interest and no fees. Using a nontraditional credit check based on the character and story of the individual borrower rather than orthodox financial data, Kiva Rochester provides a unique means for small businesses to access financing.
Brad Willows is the project coordinator for Kiva Rochester. His duties include the day-to-day management of the Kiva initiative, supporting borrowers through the application and lending process, and coordinating community partnerships. He is an Americorps VISTA member, and has been placed with the City of Rochester to perform a year of service focusing on anti-poverty capacity building. Brad is originally from Queensbury in the Adirondacks. He graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish, and also played lacrosse on the varsity team.
